Sulwe
I loved this story, written by Lupita Nyong'o. Sulwe was born very dark like midnight. All the other family members were very light, which made Sulwe feel bad about herself. The kids at school were not nice to her because she was dark, but they loved her sister. They even gave her sister nice pet names like "Sunshine" and "Beauty", but called Sulwe "Blackie" and "Night", which hurt her feelings. Sulwe felt all alone she had no friends. She tried all types of things to become lighter but nothing worked. She even prayed to God. She finally told her mother and her mother told her a story about two sisters, Day and Night. She told her how people treated them differently.
I won't tell you all the details, I recommend you read the story for yourself. All I can say is all little girls should feel beautiful because we are each unique and should feel good about ourselves.
The last page of the book was by favorite, it reminded me to love myself (yourself) for who I am (you are ) no matter what skin you are in. Beauty is not only on the outside but inside too. And I am BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!
Because God made me this way.
